MEDJ STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
Addison Sondberg is a driven and passionate Media and Journalism major at Bloomsburg University. She will be graduating in May, and heading onto new experiences, starting off with being a play-by-play broadcaster for most of the University of Pennsylvania’s softball games. The broadcasts will be available on ESPN+. She has already been a sideline reporter for ESPN+ at UPenn along with Bucknell University.
Regarding this exciting upcoming job, Addie feels this is one of the biggest opportunities she has gotten. And it was offered to her from a referral. She loves the saying, “when one door closes, another one opens.” Just as she’s about to close her chapter at Bloomsburg University, this job came at the perfect time. Upenn is a prestigious Ivy League, but she knows that there are people who believe in her and want to give her a shot. So far, she’s loved every step of the way. She feels more comfortable after every game. Furthermore, she is immensely grateful for the experience and she hopes it continues to open more doors for her in the future.
Addie advises students to get involved in as many things as they can outside of class. You learn lots of skills in classes, but it is up to you to apply those skills into other areas. She believes that most employers are looking for how you apply yourself during college, and your initiative with wanting to grow. Students should take all opportunities available to them, as it will really help to set you apart and build a name for yourself.

Loosen Your Wallets for CU Fee Increase

Student fees set to increase $2,500 over the next two years
Starting next academic year, CU Students can expect to pay more in fees and rates. News Editor of The Voice Gabby Drumheller addresses major concerns over a recent decision from Commonwealth University Trustees to increase the cost of campus living and mandatory fees by $2,500 over the next two years. The article also captures reactions from students over the news.
Tuition, housing costs and fees have steadily increased every year since 2011, at all three campuses. But according to the university’s public institutional research, there have been outliers. Out-Of-State students attending Mansfield in the 2022-2023 academic year must have had quite the shock when tuition raised from $10,032 to an outstanding $19,290 in 2023, as did Lock Haven students in the same year, when their Room costs increased by over $2K! The increase of costs at Bloomsburg has stayed steady until now.
Approximately 80% of In-State undergrad students at CU rely on financial aid, as of March 2025.

Public Relations
Do Yoga, Eat Tacos
Bloomsburg’s chapter of PRSSA has been teaming up with local businesses and making strides! From restaurant nights to promoting products on campus, the student organization excels in their public relations collaborations.
There are several upcoming events for PRSSA, in which they’d like support from not only the MEDJ community, but from all students and faculty:

Please visit PRSSA on April 20 from 2-4pm at the Student Recreation Center, where they will be hosting a table to promote Soulstice Yoga & Fitness! Learn how yoga, HIIT, and strength training can benefit you! Executive PRRSA members will even be taking a fitness class themselves at Soulstice, so they know what the yoga studio is like!
On April 22, join PRSSA at Fourth Taco on E Main Street for their Dine-In night from 3-7pm! Also on April 22, the team will be attending a virtual networking event with multiple Central Pennsylvania PRSSA chapters. How intriguing!

That’s it for this week.
